Motion Platform

Project overview

The Motion Platform is a modular system designed for realistic motion simulations.
The goal of the project is to develop a powerful yet efficient platform that achieves a high payload capacity while requiring only low motor power.
Thanks to its modular design, the platform can be flexibly configured as a 2-, 4-, or 6-DOF system (degrees of freedom) and can be expanded at any time.

Electronics – Planning of the electronics boxes

The planning of the electronics box follows the goal of creating a central and modular control unit for the entire motion platform.

The basis is a housing built from 3D-printed modules, specifically designed for expandability, accessibility, and adaptability. This allows the electronics box to be flexibly adjusted to different expansion stages of the platform.

The base unit integrates the complete power supply including the main switch, the control system based on an Arduino Mega 2560, as well as a relay-based failsafe system. This ensures that the platform can be shut down in a controlled and safe manner at any time.

Via standardized interfaces, one to three motor controller boxes can be connected depending on the configuration.
The concept makes it possible to develop the electronics in parallel with the mechanical development of the platform – from simple setups to more complex multi-DOF systems.
